Ecocert Toothpaste in stock

NEW!

  • Ecocert Certified + 100% Natural
  • Free from SLS and Fluoride

  • Bacteria fighting
  • Aloe Vera, Olive Leaf, Myrrh & Organic Essential Oils

Keep on brushing ... first thing in the morning and last thing at night!

Organic and Fairtrade pioneers Green People only use safe, natural ingredients in their newly certified Organic Toothpastes.

They deliver support to the teeth and gums with organic essential oils and Myrrh for protection against bacterial growth, and antiseptic Aloe Vera can soothe any tender feeling in the gums. All six flavours contain natural Betaine, which is also helpful for those with Dry Mouth Syndrome.

Some people suffer from recurrent mouth ulcers and gum problems which may be linked to the foaming ingredient Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), which is widely used in mainstream toothpastes.

One study showed that when mouth ulcer sufferers started using SLS-free Toothpastes, there was a 60% reduction in ulcers. Switching to an SLS-free toothpaste may be the answer to solving common conditions like gum problems, mouth ulcers, bleeding gums and gum disease. These are the big three oral health conditions which affect millions of people in the UK. Unfortunately it is not known exactly how many people have problems with SLS in Toothpaste, or have sore gums and ulcers as a result. However, trying a natural Toothpaste is an inexpensive option to explore (after visiting your Dentist for professional advice).

Green People also believe that you can choose whether your toothpaste contains Fluoride or not, as there are proven downsides to using this ingredient. (Around 10% of water supplies in the UK have Fluoride added already, which brings into question whether those receiving their Fluoride in this way also need to have it in their toothpaste!).

Try our Mandarin Toothpaste before your child's first teeth break through. If your child is accustomed to gentle brushing with a mild Toothpaste from the outset, regular brushing becomes easier later on. Founder, Charlotte Vøhtz says;
'Our Toothpastes are formulated to meet EcoCert Certified Organic standards, and the new Plant Actives will increase protection to gums and teeth as well. We hope that all of our customers will appreciate these improvements in our Toothpaste ranges'

She adds that;
'We do not use; sodium lauryl / laureth sulfate (SLS / SLES), artificial sweeteners, fluoride, alcohol, dyes, synthetic flavors or synthetic preservatives'

About the key active ingredients:
Aloe Vera – the well known desert succulent. The extract from the Aloe Vera Barbadensis Miller contains around 200 pure biological substances including enzymes, vitamins, minerals, bioflavonoids and essential amino acids. Aloe Vera's active ingredients strengthen the gums and tooth pockets and reduce soreness and swelling.

Betaine
- a sugar-free ingredient derived from sugar beet. This has a mild foaming effect, promotes saliva secretion and relieves symptoms of dry mouth. Decreased saliva flow results in dry mouth (xerostomia), which among other things gives discomfort, stinging or burning sensations, impaired swallowing function and increased risk of caries.

Olive Leaf Extract
- contains the bitter compound oleuropein - a powerful antioxidant with powerful anti-bacterial activity that can alleviate inflammation of the gums and help control the growth of plaque.

In sum, the benefits are;

• Ideal for sensitive gums
• Promotes salivary secretions
• Strengthens gums and gum pockets
• Can ease inflammation of the gums
• Can reduce ulcers and blisters in the mouth

So, all that remains is to choose your flavour - my fave is the Fennel!

Warnings over toothpaste chemical

The EU Scientific Community on Consumer Safety has called for a widely used chemical found in toothpastes, hand washes and cosmetics to undergo further safety tests.

Triclosan is a potent antifungal and antibacterial agent that was first developed for use in hospitals.

However its uses have grown far outside that and traces of Triclosan are now found in 75% of Americans. Levels in the EU population are likely to be similar.

It has been linked with hormone disruption and its widespread use is also prompting concern over bacterial resistance.

Some degree of resistance to Triclosan has already been seen in some strains of E Coli, salmonella, listeria and MRSA.

This is a concern because it may mean that antibiotics and other medicines may be less effective.

Some large brands of toothpaste manufacturer continue to use Triclosan as they feel the benefits outweigh the risks.

Triclosan-free toothpastes

At Green People we do not use Triclosan, nor other chemicals such as SLS or Fluoride, in our natural toothpastes. Instead, you will find natural antibacterial agents such as Myrrh and Vitamin C which do not cause bacterial resistance.

We also do not use Triclosan in our natural liquid soaps, hand sanitizer or any other products.
