------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you know...

Sodium lauryl sulphate – from engine degreaser to male skincare! This nasty is found in shampoos, body-washes and toothpastes. It strips oils from the skin which can cause irritation. It also allows chemicals to reach the blood stream - fairly eye opening, this one.

Synthetic fragrance is a leading cause of allergy and irritation for men. A by-product of petrochemicals, it commonly causes allergic skin reactions - some products can contain as many as 100 synthetic chemicals (quite why we can't fathom, as you really don't have to!).

Phthalates – from the plastics industry to male skincare products, this known hormone disrupting chemical is found in many skincare products. Can cause damage to the liver, kidneys, lungs, and the developing of testes. Not at all good.

Alcohol (Ethyl alcohol or Ethanol) - a volatile ingredient that dries out skin! Alcohol dissolves skin’s natural oils and lipids that provide protection to living skin cells. Has a preservative function - but not really a very good one in skincare, we feel.

Green People a rarity among natural & organic brands;

Organic Monitor have assessed over 50 international brands of natural cosmetic products, and ranked them, according to trade news sources. Brands that have received high naturalness scores include Green People (8). These new findings reassert that Green People are living up to their marketing claims (we are glad to hear it - thanks!)

In the recent study, a chemist examined product composition and grouped the ingredient formulations according to their "level of naturalness." Certified organic cosmetics received the highest rating (9-10), pure natural cosmetics got 5-7 ratings, and naturally inspired cosmetics got 2 rating, whilst conventional cosmetics only got 1 rating.

Less rosily, the findings also confirm that most natural brands are
not meeting their marketing claims. Many companies claiming to have "chemically-clean" cosmetics actually are falling foul - by including contentious, synthetic ingredients. Many are classified as semi-natural or naturally inspired, and even claim to be "100% natural."

Some organic cosmetic brands are also given low "naturalness" ratings; although their products contain certified organic ingredients, this is notweworthy because some lesser formulations have synthetic ingredients added in... not good!

Ecocert Toothpaste in stock

NEW!

  • Ecocert Certified + 100% Natural
  • Free from SLS and Fluoride

  • Bacteria fighting
  • Aloe Vera, Olive Leaf, Myrrh & Organic Essential Oils

Keep on brushing ... first thing in the morning and last thing at night!

Organic and Fairtrade pioneers Green People only use safe, natural ingredients in their newly certified Organic Toothpastes.

They deliver support to the teeth and gums with organic essential oils and Myrrh for protection against bacterial growth, and antiseptic Aloe Vera can soothe any tender feeling in the gums. All six flavours contain natural Betaine, which is also helpful for those with Dry Mouth Syndrome.

Some people suffer from recurrent mouth ulcers and gum problems which may be linked to the foaming ingredient Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), which is widely used in mainstream toothpastes.

One study showed that when mouth ulcer sufferers started using SLS-free Toothpastes, there was a 60% reduction in ulcers. Switching to an SLS-free toothpaste may be the answer to solving common conditions like gum problems, mouth ulcers, bleeding gums and gum disease. These are the big three oral health conditions which affect millions of people in the UK. Unfortunately it is not known exactly how many people have problems with SLS in Toothpaste, or have sore gums and ulcers as a result. However, trying a natural Toothpaste is an inexpensive option to explore (after visiting your Dentist for professional advice).

Green People also believe that you can choose whether your toothpaste contains Fluoride or not, as there are proven downsides to using this ingredient. (Around 10% of water supplies in the UK have Fluoride added already, which brings into question whether those receiving their Fluoride in this way also need to have it in their toothpaste!).

Try our Mandarin Toothpaste before your child's first teeth break through. If your child is accustomed to gentle brushing with a mild Toothpaste from the outset, regular brushing becomes easier later on. Founder, Charlotte Vøhtz says;
'Our Toothpastes are formulated to meet EcoCert Certified Organic standards, and the new Plant Actives will increase protection to gums and teeth as well. We hope that all of our customers will appreciate these improvements in our Toothpaste ranges'

She adds that;
'We do not use; sodium lauryl / laureth sulfate (SLS / SLES), artificial sweeteners, fluoride, alcohol, dyes, synthetic flavors or synthetic preservatives'

About the key active ingredients:
Aloe Vera – the well known desert succulent. The extract from the Aloe Vera Barbadensis Miller contains around 200 pure biological substances including enzymes, vitamins, minerals, bioflavonoids and essential amino acids. Aloe Vera's active ingredients strengthen the gums and tooth pockets and reduce soreness and swelling.

Betaine
- a sugar-free ingredient derived from sugar beet. This has a mild foaming effect, promotes saliva secretion and relieves symptoms of dry mouth. Decreased saliva flow results in dry mouth (xerostomia), which among other things gives discomfort, stinging or burning sensations, impaired swallowing function and increased risk of caries.

Olive Leaf Extract
- contains the bitter compound oleuropein - a powerful antioxidant with powerful anti-bacterial activity that can alleviate inflammation of the gums and help control the growth of plaque.

In sum, the benefits are;

• Ideal for sensitive gums
• Promotes salivary secretions
• Strengthens gums and gum pockets
• Can ease inflammation of the gums
• Can reduce ulcers and blisters in the mouth

So, all that remains is to choose your flavour - my fave is the Fennel!

Basic Rules To Achieve the Perfect Beautiful Skin

by Sean Prenderville-Finn

It is just not surprising to know that many people are really dreaming of having a beautiful pale skin that has an even tone and appears to be unblemished. This is because only a few people are gifted with such and are privileged to achieve this type of skin.

The easiest and most plausible method to be able to have a beautiful pale skin to show off to other people is to maintain a balanced diet. Most people become too lax with the foods that they eat most especially when they have too many responsibilities. Being negligent of your diet will not only be bad for your overall health, but it will also affect your skin in a major way. However, within just a few weeks, you will already see the effects of consuming fresh fruits, vegetables and juice in your daily diet. In addition, it is also advisable that you consume a lot of water in a single day to be able to properly hydrate it and keep your skin moisturized.

The second method to be able to achieve the beautiful pale skin you have been dreaming of for so long is to protect it from the different elements in your environment. For instance, the sun can really harm the skin causing wrinkles, freckles and even age spots to appear in it if you expose yourself to it for a long time. In the same way, harsh and cold weathers will also be harmful to the skin that in fact, they cause almost 70% of all the skin problems today. Because of this, it is always advisable that you put on a natural sunscreen application whenever you will go out into the sun. On the other hand, it is also necessary for you to put on moisturizing products when you need to be in a very cold weather. When you become successful in doing these protective methods from external factors, you will be able to see the difference it makes on your skin.

You should know that to be able to obtain the perfect and beautiful pale skin that every person is dreaming of, you do not have to spend too much money on different solutions. You only have to discipline yourself when it comes to realizing what your body, most especially your skin, needs. Lastly, you only have to be mindful of the methods needed on how you will be able to live your life healthily every single day.

Help yourself to some great products and ideas by going to my website, where you will find that staying beautiful is not difficult after all.

Organic skin care pioneers, Green People are delighted to support the crew and public at Playgoup Festival.

We are giving away hundreds of sachets of our high performing natural Sun care, alongside leaflets with advice on sun protection. We want the crew and the audience to enjoy natural and certified organic protection from UVA and UVB rays, as everyone is hoping for hot dry weather conditions!

Fingers crossed for a dry and summery weekend, and with such a hot festival lineup this looks like a weekend to remember (Fri 5 / Sat 6 / Sun 7 August). Look out for Stay Sick! Dj's and bourbon fuelled sonic assaults, other mayhem with King Salami plus wonderful live music from Brighton favourites Sweet Sweet Lies, and Derriere.

With no big corporations selling you things in your downtime, the organisers aim to bring fresh produce in from Kent and Sussex. Their events can be relied on to be theatrical without being theatre, musical without being just gigs, artistic without being exclusive ...

Green People sun team say; 'Go natural - and banish prickly heat!'

Opting for organic beauty is an easy step to take if you prefer to avoid contact with the toxins found in everyday toiletries. Green People only use natural and skin-friendly ingredients to protect and help to avoid premature ageing. With sun lotion, it is best to avoid Silicones, Siloxanes, Trimethicones and Petrochemicals, because they act like cling film to prevent the skin from breathing.

Other experts say; Natural Health Beauty Awards 2011 'OVERALL WINNER - ORGANIC RANGE' & 'BEST - SUN PROTECTION'

No Scent Sun Lotion SPF25 is a water resistant organic sun lotion offers broad spectrum UVA & UVB protection with antioxidants and vitamins A, C & E to help support the skin’s immune system and protect against cell damage. Made without essential oils this sun lotion is perfect for all skin types, even sensitive or prone to prickly heat. Available in travel-size at £9.95 for 50ml, or £17.95 for 200ml.

Green People and Chestnut Tree House

Chestnut Tree House is the only children's hospice in Sussex.

Completed in 2003, the hospice provides a 'home from home' for children and young adults with progressive, life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses.

They offer support for the whole family (spanning psychological support, care in bereavement therapy, end of life and respite care and sibling support), and families are not charged for their care. The hospice receives very little government funding, so it relies on the generosity, help and support of the people of Sussex.

The hospice costs £2.5 million per year to run;

On site there are 10 children's bedrooms plus 8 family rooms, a wet and dry play area, computer and music rooms, a multi sensory room and hydrotherapy pool. There are potentially 400 families with life-limited children in Sussex. And as we all keep hearing in this weeks news, four in ten Brits have a propensity to Cancer in the coming years.

Green People have attended various events over the years, including The Snowman Ball. We have also sponsored a child and their family for one year, and given personal care product gifts. Today, Green People founder Charlotte went along with Sue from Sales and Marketing to the all new Falmer Sports Stadium, home for Brighton and Hove Albion, to catch up - and the purpose?
To ask that everybody (our suppliers, customers, neighbours and friends) can have a rethink think about helping fund Chestnut Tree in their delivery of essential, highly valued services ...
